In today’s economy of rising costs saving is a huge challenge– especially with limited funds. Thankfully, it is not impossible.
Below are some simple tips that can have a big impact on your bottom line.

Review your living expenses – Research your phone carrier or cable company, do they offer bundle pricing if you purchase multiple services? What about that movie channel or magazine subscription – is it really being used? Can you carpool to work to save on gas? Eliminating or modifying unneeded expenses will boost your monthly income.

Trim the fat – Double mocha chocolate latte anyone? Keep track of your spending for 5-7 days to learn where you’re leaking cash. Record every purchase – even that 99 cent Wawa coffee. At the end of the week review your list, trim unnecessary expenses and reap the financial reward!

Stop the credit bleed – Establishing good credit is important. Using credit to support indulgences hurts your bottom line. Don't spend what you don't have. Soapbox aside, if you’re carrying credit card debt you can improve your situation by calling your credit company to ask for a reduced interest rate. If you have more than one revolving balance, why not check about consolidating to one account. If you want to cut your credit card expenses freeze your credit card in a block of ice – defrosting it will give you time to think about the importance of your purchase and eliminate impulse buying.

Pay yourself first – Automatic payroll deductions to savings, flexible spending accounts for daycare or healthcare expenses, and pre-tax retirement contributions make paying yourself first painless – really! Check with your employer’s human resources department for specifics.

Quality vs. quantity – Remember that life is about a "quality" not "quantity." Despite what they say, kids benefit most from our time – a walk in the park is far more memorable in the long run than the latest video game. So play a game, read a book or simply have a talk – it’s fun and FREE!

Set yourself up for success – Start small and tackle larger changes over time. Celebrate your success and chin up if you fall off the wagon. Change doesn’t happen overnight.

Good luck and remember you can achieve your goals – one step at a time.
