“Think Beyond the Label” Promotes Hiring of People with Disabilities
|
|
When is it ok to label people with disabilities? When you are labeling everyone else of course! That is what the new National Ad campaign that promotes hiring people with disabilities is all about.
The organization Health & Disability Advocates is spearheading a collaborative of 30 states, which will launch on February 1 a national ad campaign promoting the hiring of people with disabilities. The $4 million campaign will appear on television, in print, on the Web, and on billboards through 2010. The goal of the humorous, edgy campaign is to change attitudes about hiring people with disabilities, raising awareness of the need for diversity in the workplace, and countering stereotypes about people with disabilities.

10 Terrific Tips for a Great Interview

10 Terrific Tips for a Great Job Interview
1. Know the Employer - Research the employers business ahead of the interview. Talk with others who may know about the company.
2. Dress to Dazzle - Have clothes cleaned and pressed a day or two before the interview. Try them on a few days before to insure they fit properly and you are comfortable. Poor circulation or lack of sensation may cause some people to not feel comfortable for a few hours. Also, clothing should not be too baggy or too tight (no matter how sexy you think you are). If you cannot afford a suit or dress, visit a second-hand store and purchase one. You can have them dry cleaned at a reasonable cost.

To some people networking sounds like something old men in business suits do at a hotel lobby. It sounds, formal and uninviting, maybe even forbidden. Even the name is strange, “Networking”, sounds like fishermen trying to bring home the days catch. Yet, that is exactly what it should be. Because, it is nothing more than working hard to “catch” contacts, or meet people who could further your career. In some instances, people network for a mutually beneficial goal, were both parties benefit. For example, a cocktail party for photographers and models were both could make professional contacts that could end in a photo shoot.
