Are you self-directing the Home and Community Based Services you receive in your state? Would you like to know about participant-direction from other people who are self-directing from other states? Would you like to learn more about participant-direction? Would you like to share your voice with other participants to promote self-determination and advocate for participant-direction? Do you have family, friends, allies and staff who would like to know more about participant-direction in the United States?

Then join the National Participant Network (NPN), a group of people who are elderly citizens or who have disabilities that direct their own services, or are very interested in participant-direction, along with their family, friends, allies, advocates and direct support staff. It is free and you can be part of the activities of the NPN from anywhere through computer and phone technology. If you don’t have this technology, then the NPN will find alternative ways to keep you informed and involved.

The NPN members decide what they want to do and collaborate on projects with the National Resource Center on Participant-Directed Services (NRCPDS) at Boston College. The NPN Advancement Team is designing education modules that will be available on line so people can learn about participant-direction. The NPN is working on a Report Card Action project that will be used to judge participant-directed programs. NPN members work on policy development and other projects with the NRCPDS.

This is truly participants connecting to other participants; participants making decisions on what projects to work on; participants doing the work they way they want to do it.

Participant-direction in your state will become better and stronger as participants all around the country connect, learn and share with each other and develop a collective voice.

It is easy to join NPN. Go to: www.participantdirection.org and on the left side of the screen, click on “Participant Network (NPN).” There will be links to the General Membership Form and the State Delegate Form on the page. Select the form you want to complete. When the form is completed, click on the submit button on the right at the top of the form.
